7 September 2021 – Leading manufacturer of marine cooling systems, Hydroniq Coolers, has delivered bundle number 1,000 of its increasingly popular hull-integrated “Rack” seawater cooler.
The recipient of bundle number 1,000 was Norwegian shipbuilder Aas Mek. Verksted, who is building several vessels for wellboat operator Sølvtrans. More specifically, it is the yard’s newbuild number 208 that will be equipped with Rack bundle number 1,000 from Hydroniq Coolers.
“Aas Mek. Verksted, and indirectly Sølvtrans, has become such a major customer of Hydroniq Coolers in recent years so we were actually pleased that they were the recipient of our celebratory Rack bundle number 1,000,” smiles Hans Robert Almestad, vice president of sales and marketing at Hydroniq Coolers.
Aas Mek. Verksted newbuild number 208 is part of a three vessel newbuild series – consisting of newbuilds number 208, 209 and 210 – that Hydroniq Coolers supplies its Rack seawater coolers to. Under a separate contract, Hydroniq Coolers has also been contracted by Aas Mek. Verksted to supply its Rack seawater cooler to newbuilds 211 and 212 too.
The “Rack” cooler is integrated in the hull below the main engine room of the vessel, where it reduces temperatures in the ship’s engines and other auxiliary systems through use of seawater, but without taking up valuable engine room space.
The three newbuilds 208, 209 and 210 will benefit from a newly composed Rack unit which aim to further increase the system’s operational flexibility. In the past, Aas Mek. Verksted and Sølvtrans have utilised two cooling systems within each “Rack” unit, but these vessels will use three cooling system within each unit. This eliminates the need for an external plate heat exchanger that is connected to the cooling unit.
The three sister wellboats are of the yard’s own design, type AAS 3002 ST. Each vessel has a load capacity of 3,000 cubic metres across two wells. They are 76.96 metres long, 17.80 metres wide and 5.80 metres depth moulded. The three newbuilds will be delivered to Sølvtrans during 2022.
